Vineyards

The beginnings of grapevine cultivation by our agricultural cooperative can be dated back to 1951, when the first 3.5 hectare plot was planted. It gradually expanded to today’s 133 hectares. The Mojmírovské vineyards are spread over the Nitra hills, which are part of the Danube Plain. The altitude is from 150 to 170 meters above sea level. The slopes on which the vines are planted have an ideal southern exposure with a slope of 3 to 5°.

Professional agricultural technology is a matter of course in our vineyards. In professional circles, the quality of the grapes grown by us has been highly respected for many years.

A big benefit of our vineyards, in addition to the soil and climate, is also their age. A large part of the planting is older than 20 years, but you can also find areas planted 30 years ago, and the greatest rarity is the Chardonnay planted in 1968.

Vine is one of the most deeply seasoned crops, which is why it can easily reach a depth of 15 meters. This is the reason why such old plantings can transfer a beautiful minerality to the grapes, which subsequently leaves its mark in the wines.

The most represented variety are Grüner Veltliner, Müller Thurgau, but you can also find other viticultural classics such as Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Tramin Red, Riesling Vlachský, Muscat Ottonel, Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir, Alibernet, Cabernet Sauvignon, St. Lawrence, but also the rare white Bacchus variety. Of course, we do not rely only on the heritage of our ancestors, and even now we plant more and more varieties.

When expanding our vineyards, we also bet on Sauvignon and Merlot, which we planted in 2006. However, we did not begrudge the beautiful Slovak Novices either, and in 2014 we decided to plant four of them. In the end, the choice fell on the white varieties Noria and Milia and the blue gems Hron and Dunaj.

We believe that even with this short presentation of our vineyards, we have whet your appetite for a glass of Mojmírov wine with the original signature of the local terroir.
