The story of ours

víno PD Mojmírovce - pdmoj.sk

Company

The beginnings of grapevine cultivation by our agricultural cooperative can be dated back to 1951, when the first 3.5 hectare plot was planted. It gradually expanded to today’s 133 hectares.

The Mojmírovské vineyards are spread over the Nitra hills, which are part of the Danube Plain.

history

How it started

The first written mention of the wine-growing village of Mojmírovce (in the past Urmín) dates from 1156, when it is mentioned in the document of Martinius of Ostrihom as one of the villages from which church fees can be collected.

The fact that wine has always been produced and sold in our village is evidenced by historical documents from 1290, which prove that the inhabitants of the village did not pay the fees for wine imported to Ostrihom. Another document from 1315 obliged them to deliver wine to Ostrihom for Easter and Christmas. Urmín had the status of a town, had its seal with a coat of arms symbolizing a vine bush and two bunches of grapes. He also had the right to organize markets and a fair, the right to own a slaughterhouse and a brewery. After the arrival of the Huňady family in our village, agricultural production was raised to a very high level.

Gróf, as the first in Central Europe, began to use the fertilization of the soil with farmyard manure. There was an Urmin wine bar in Budapest. Our winemakers imported wine there in specially marked barrels. The first three hectares of company vineyards were established in 1951, which is also the year our company was founded. Three years later, the first wine was produced in the historic cellar of Count Huňady. In 1988, new modern cellar spaces were put into operation in the area of the Mojmírovce vineyard.

present

As time passed

The vineyards are located on the Nitrian hill with a southern exposure at an altitude of 150-170 m. Most of the soil on which vines are planted is black soil on loess.

The vineyard areas belong to a warm climate area with an average annual temperature of 9.8 ºC. The total amount of sunshine for vegetation is 1227 hours. The annual amount of precipitation is 545 mm. From the current area of 155 ha, among the cultivated varieties, the largest representation is Grüner Veltliner, Müller Thurgau, Chardonnay, Riesling Vlasský, Riesling Riesling, Frankovka blue, Cabernet Sauvignon.

Of the other varieties, we mainly grow Tramín red, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon, Svätovavrinecké and Alibernet. The uniqueness of the location, the correct selection of the varietal composition and the modern method of cultivation make our vineyards a place where it is possible to grow high-quality grapes. All the grapes that we process in the cellar come exclusively from our vineyards. To a large extent, we concentrate only on the production of quality wines with the attribute. Modern technology for processing grapes is located in the company premises.

Thanks to this, during the harvest season, the grapes are transported from the vineyard to processing in a very short time. Of course, gentle destemming of white grapes and subsequent pressing on a pneumatic press is a matter of course.

The clarified ciders ferment in stainless steel containers under constant controlled control. Blue grape mash ferments in vinifiers, where the color, tannins and bouquet substances are macerated during controlled fermentation. The wines are then aged in stainless steel containers or in wooden barrels in our cellars. We fill the produced wines on our own modern line.

We store bottled wine in an air-conditioned warehouse with a constant temperature. We distribute our products to gastronomic establishments and wine shops, but you can also enjoy them in our tasting room.
